Frequently Asked Questions About Exercise Physiology

When should I see an Exercise Physiologist?

You should see a certified Exercise Physiologist when you need an outcome and result from undertaking a specific exercise program, or when you have a medical condition or injury that calls for a specialist health care and professional exercise advice.

What is the difference between an Accredited Exercise Scientist and an Accredited Exercise Physiologist?

An Accredited Exercise Scientist (AES) focuses on improving health, fitness, and performance through evidence-based exercise for generally healthy populations. An Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) has additional training to deliver exercise programs for people with chronic conditions, injuries, or disabilities, often working in clinical or rehabilitation settings.

What Can I Expect From My Initial Exercise Physiology Assessment?

An Exercise Physiology Initial Assessment at Fortify Movement & Health will include a thorough discussion about your diagnosis, medical history, previous and current injuries, health conditions and treatment based on your medication. We will also conduct an AxIT strength and movement assessment to provide a clinical postural and analysis of your body to assess risk management and improve your everyday life.

This full assessment information is important in order to prescribe an individual exercise program that’s tailored and designed for your body. Then, with your certified exercise physiologist, your goals are discussed and a treatment plan is designed and developed for you. Then, depending on your exercise conditioning needs, you’ll begin an individual exercise program in either a 1:1, or via a Telehealth call.

Your exercise therapy program will be reassessed and adjusted every 3-4 weeks to ensure your program reflects your clinical goals. If required, a structured home exercise program via a Telehealth call can be programmed to ensure that you’re getting the most out of your exercise physiology sessions.

From your initial assessment, you’ll have a clear management plan for your clinical condition. And you’ll be supported in a professional manner and care is taken to achieve your goals. Your Altona exercise physiologist will also collaborate with any other treating and allied health practitioners to ensure each member of your healthcare team is collaborating and working towards the same health goals.

All sessions delivered by Fortify Movement & Health exercise physiology are accredited. This means, you’re eligible for private health rebates, depending on the terms and conditions of your coverage with your private health insurance provider.

What is the difference between an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and a Physiotherapist?
